Know how Voltcheckr is paid before you choose. Home and Business use different compensation arrangements; the details below explain each.
Regulatory status
Voltcheckr is a broker, not a supplier.
Voltcheckr operates under PUCT Broker Registration BR260102. That means we are not a Retail Electric Provider (REP). Our job is to compare the market and show you suppliers' offers for your usage profile. The electricity contract is between you and the supplier you select, not between you and Voltcheckr.
How we get paid
The supplier you choose pays us.
The supplier you choose pays us. For business accounts, the supplier pays us a commission for every kWh you consume over the contract term, through our commercial brokerage platform (Power Kiosk), and that commission is included in the rate the supplier quotes your business, so there is no separate fee. For residential enrollments, the supplier pays a flat referral fee for each completed enrollment, through our residential enrollment partner (PowerHQ, the company behind EnergyBot). Either way the commission is paid by the supplier, and Voltcheckr does not bill you: no shopping fee, no monthly fee, and no other charge from us for using Voltcheckr.
What this means for you
On a business account, the commission is in the quoted rate.
On a business account, the commission is included in the rate the supplier quotes you, and Voltcheckr charges no separate fee. What you get for it is the comparison: competing supplier offers side by side instead of a single quote, so you are benchmarking against the rest of the market. Your job is to pick the supplier you want to sign with. Ours is to make sure you see the competitive options.

How to file a complaint.
As a Texas customer, residential or business, you have the right to file complaints about electricity brokers with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT). Box 13326, Austin, Texas 78711-3326. We recommend contacting us first; most issues resolve quickly over email or a phone call.
