What does it cost to use Voltcheckr?
No separate fee: suppliers pay us a commission when a contract is signed. It is a per-kWh amount inside the rate the supplier quotes. Voltcheckr LLC is a PUCT-registered broker (BR260102), and the commission is paid by the supplier you choose. You see live supplier rates by ZIP, or send one bill for a quote, and you sign only with the supplier.
What do Texas businesses pay for electricity on average?
The average Texas commercial account paid 8.47¢ per kWh all-in, supply and delivery together, versus 14.53¢ nationally (EIA, 07/2026), and used about 9,701 kWh a month (EIA, through 2026). Supplier quotes may price supply alone, so they are not always directly comparable to that all-in average. That usage average mixes corner stores with hospitals, so any one business varies widely. Businesses in deregulated Texas territory choose their electricity supplier, and delivery stays with the local TDU with any supplier.
How much electricity does a Texas retail store use?
Roughly 4,000 to 90,000 kWh a month, depending on size and hours (our estimate, not a published statistic). Retail businesses and shopping centers carry significant lighting, HVAC, and refrigeration loads that run during extended operating hours, making electricity one of the larger occupancy costs a business can control.
Can a retail store in Texas choose its electricity supplier?
Yes, in deregulated ERCOT territory, which covers most of Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and much of the state. Eligibility follows the service address and its utility: a municipal utility or an electric cooperative that has not opted into retail competition, such as Austin Energy or CPS Energy in San Antonio, does not offer that choice. Can I shop if electricity is included in my rent?
Usually not. When the landlord holds the account, the landlord chooses the supplier. You can shop when the account is in your business's name, so check your bill and lease first.

Yes, where each location's account is in your name in Texas retail-choice territory. Locations can be priced as one bid or separately, and aligning their renewal dates makes a combined bid simpler.
How long does a quote take after I send a request?
