What does it cost to use Voltcheckr?
No separate fee: suppliers pay us a commission when a contract is signed. It is a per-kWh amount inside the rate the supplier quotes. Voltcheckr LLC is a PUCT-registered broker (BR260102), and the commission is paid by the supplier you choose. You see live supplier rates by ZIP, or send one bill for a quote, and you sign only with the supplier.
What do Texas businesses pay for electricity on average?
The average Texas commercial account paid 8.47¢ per kWh all-in, supply and delivery together, versus 14.53¢ nationally (EIA, 07/2026), and used about 9,701 kWh a month (EIA, through 2026). Supplier quotes may price supply alone, so they are not always directly comparable to that all-in average. That usage average mixes corner stores with hospitals, so any one business varies widely. Businesses in deregulated Texas territory choose their electricity supplier, and delivery stays with the local TDU with any supplier.
How much electricity does a Texas salon use?
Roughly 2,000 to 12,000 kWh a month, depending on size and hours (our estimate, not a published statistic). Hair salons, nail salons, and beauty spas use high-wattage styling equipment, UV nail lamps, and HVAC continuously during operating hours, with electricity as a predictable and manageable operating cost.
Can a salon in Texas choose its electricity supplier?
Yes, in deregulated ERCOT territory, which covers most of Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and much of the state. Eligibility follows the service address and its utility: a municipal utility or an electric cooperative that has not opted into retail competition, such as Austin Energy or CPS Energy in San Antonio, does not offer that choice. Can a chair renter or suite tenant switch suppliers?
Usually not. A chair renter, or a suite with power included in the rent, does not hold the electricity account. A salon whose account is in its own name can shop it.
Can a new salon get pricing without a bill?
Yes. Start with the ZIP and your expected monthly bill or usage; the comparison shows the figure it priced, and a bill confirms it later. Some suppliers ask for a deposit, so check each offer's terms.
How long does a quote take after I send a request?
Where the ZIP is in Texas retail-choice territory and live plans match your account, your plan options arrive by email within an hour; where none match, the account is priced by custom quote. Custom pricing is prepared the same business day when you ask inside advisor hours (7am–7pm CT, Monday–Saturday), otherwise the next business day.
